Shalom, dear brothers and sisters!
Around Christmas time every year, I always like the second chapter of Luke in the Bible, which recounts the angels and shepherds proclaiming this message of great joy: “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Perhaps this Bible passage is very familiar to the ears of many Christians. I always feel, however, that regardless of the month in which I think of this quote, it is never as fitting, as eager, and as real as I do in December. Why is it a message of great joy? Of course, it is not because of the lengthy Christmas holiday, nor for the numerous Christmas festivities and presents. The reason is this is a message which is given to every person of God on earth!
On that night more than two thousand years ago, a large group of heavenly hosts and angels suddenly appeared in the tranquil sky, chanting loudly: “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” But who would have expected the singing that night would appear in the sky on the soil of China in the 20th century! One night some 70 years ago, the gospel descended upon China from the sky for the first time! This message of peace was broadcast through shortwave radio to the listeners. Indeed, from that day on, shortwave radio has fulfilled the angel’s work of spreading the gospel. Far East Broadcasting, from that day onward, also inherited this historical mission. This task continues to this day. Regardless of the obstacles, interference of weather, and unstable political situation, all these are powerless in preventing FEBCanada from broadcasting the gospel of peace to our own flesh and blood in the country. As Rev.Taylor III, the director of a certain organisation once said: “More than half of the Christians in China come to Jesus by directly or indirectly listening to gospel broadcast!”
” Radio Liangyou ” is the call sign of Far East Broadcasting. For more than 70 years, it has been a companion on the journey of faith for Christians in China. It has accompanied the faithful through the most difficult periods, yet passed with them through the most splendid time. This blessing that comes down from heaven has always shrouded the entire China in the past. For this we are very grateful! In addition, we commit on this day to not only continue this mission for the years to come but also to extend the gospel broadcast through different media to other places where Chinese people gather, including places outside of China, such as Europe, the Middle East and other countries in Asia!
This July, FEBCanada has entered its 37th year. We thank you all for your continuous prayers and support. Started as a gospel broadcast station in a small attic, we have developed into a missionary organization of respectable size. We are grateful that Chinese gospel broadcasting is still the steadfast direction of our ministry! Letting our kinfolks hear the gospel remains our most important mission. Therefore, the development from a single radio broadcast in the past to being a multimedia broadcasting today is the result of our joint efforts! Further, we are even more grateful that the few monthly listener letters from China have turned into a huge number of responses. In August this year alone, we have recorded more than 30 million hits for the download of gospel programs by our audience in China, before counting the emails and letters by the tens of thousands every month. The above data is definitely not humanly achievable. Everything is the work of God! Facing such fruitful results, I believe that our Far East colleagues would not dare to ease up. Last month, a brother who supported us told me very solemnly and urgently: Under the strict regulations on Christianity in China today, fellow Far Eastern colleagues must keep up the effort and not fail the expectations of our compatriots.
I am very grateful for the encouragement of this brother! Even in the face of a tremendous challenge, in the first three months of the new fiscal year, we have already accumulated a deficit of more than $180,000. I still believe, however, brothers and sisters, that your prayers and support will definitely get us through this difficulty!
Like the praises of the heavenly host and the angel,
let us testify together what the Bible says:
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
